I photographed Jurre Corbee, a jumping spider breeder, and his jumping spiders for De Correspondent. The article was written by Tamar Stelling and can be read here.
Jumping spiders have become a true hype on TikTok, transforming them from wild animals into commodities. I specifically wanted to visualize this transformation, combined with the way Jurre has structured his habitat to focus on caring for these animals.
Jurre breeds all the jumping spiders himself and is careful not to sell wild-caught animals. He literally wakes up with animals overhead and spends an average of four hours a day feeding them. He spends the rest of his day educating customers about caring for the animals and making discoveries about the behavior of breeding spiders that are still unknown to science.
