Artist Statement
Jasper Zijlstra (born 1990) is a photographer and visual artist. He uses his camera to access complex and hidden worlds, ranging from sterile laboratories to personal stories. In collaborations with scientists and experts, a continuous interaction develops between research and photographic experimentation. This collaboration creates aesthetic images of complex information that serve as new interpretations for experts and arouse curiosity in laypeople. He focuses on positive stories about ecology, climate, sustainability, and social cohesion. With his work, he aims to evoke wonder about the world around us, because it is from wonder that engagement and the need to care can arise.
